ReStitch is our free mending service and upcycling team. Started by Sara Lignell, it initially began as a pilot project in Spring 2024. In Fall 2024, after a successful first semester, ReStitch become fully integrated into REUSE’s operational structure and now is a full team within our operations branch. The team or ReStitch associates is led by our Head of ReStitch assisted by 1-2 ReStitch Managers.
ReStitch has mended over 90 garments free of charge for members of the Georgetown community.
Our Services
Open Stitch Sessions
ReStitch hosts biweekly Open Stitch Session for the Georgetown Community to learn sewing basics and find a creative community. Our Open Stitch Sessions are just another level of our community engagement and education.
Mending
ReStitch offers free garment mending services to the Georgetown Community. Damaged items may be dropped off at any of our sales, taking note of what needs to be fixed, and ReStitch members will mend the items. Garments can then be picked up at the following sale.
Projects
ReStitch regularly works on new projects. This year ReStitch collaborated with Added to the File to create outfits for them. As well, ReStitch works on upcycling donated items deemed unsellable — this year they produced tote bags for sale at the Georgetown Farmers’ Markets.
